Welcome to my last book review, today I will be summarizing the fifth and final of the heroes of Olympus series: the blood of Olympus.
Annabeth, Jason, and Piper are trying to figure out
Gaea’s plans. The demigods know there is going to be a large meeting of Gaea’s
followers and servants, the three demigods decide to investigate things
carefully.
With the help from hazel’s mist,
they disguise themselves to attend the meeting of resurrected souls in Ithaca.
During the meeting they find out their assumptions were wrong, Gaea is not
attacking Mount Olympus, she is attacking the Acropolis. The demigods must take
the longer path because the main path to Athens is heavily guarded.
One of the souls sees through the
mist and makes Jason confront his dead mother, he ends up getting wounded. The
trio summons Juno, she tells them to find Nike, Artemis, and Apollo. The three
gods were banished by Zeus, Nike is at Olympia and the twins are on their
island of birth.
Frank, Leo, Hazel, and Percy go to
see Nike, they are forced into Nike’s deadly Olympic Games. They end up
capturing her, she then tells them that one of their fates is to die. They need
the Physician’s Cure, which is composed of three ingredients.
Franks gets the first ingredient,
Phylosian mint, from his relatives. The second one is the heartbeat of the
chained god; they believe that the chained god is Ares because he has a chained
statue of him in Sparta. Annabeth and Hazel battle for the heartbeat in the
ruins of Sparta. Leo Frank and Hazel meet with Artemis and Apollo at their
island of birth to get the third ingredient, the curse of Delos. Apollo gives
it to them and instructs them to go see his son Asclepius in Epidaurus because
he can make the physician's cure. When they leave Delos, Leo tells Hazel his
plan to sacrifice himself and give himself the cure later to beat Gaea.
After they convince Asclepius to make them the cure they travel to Athens where
the demigods defeat an army of giants with a bit of help from Zeus. Annabeth and
Percy got hurt during the battle and got blood on the ground which gave Gaea
the power to awaken. Gaea wakes up at camp half-blood and intends to destroy
it.
While the
7 demigods from the prophecy were in Athens, Coach Hedge, Reyna, and Nico were
making their way back to Camp Half-Blood. Reyna finds out through a dream that a
giant is hunting them. In Evora, they are attacked by Lycaon, the giant from Reyna’s dream. Once they defeat the giant,
they move on to San Juan, Reyna’s hometown. Reyna is kidnapped by the hunters
of Artemis who are working with the Amazons. While being held captive, Orion
the giant attacks and kills several hunters and Amazons. Nico, Reyna, and Coach
Hedge go to South Carolina via shadow travel. While they were there a camper who
Reyna had exiled tries to kill her, but Nico saves the day and turns the
ex-camper into a ghost.
Nico and coach hedge head to camp while Reyna defeats Orion on a yacht. When they
arrive at camp they see the roman campers set up outside the camp borders ready
to attack camp half-blood. Octavian wants to attack at dawn, but most camps do
not engage since Reyna said not to. While the roman campers were bickering, a
few Greek campers tamper with the onagers so that when they fire the missiles
they will all detonate harmlessly in the air. Before the roman campers do any
damage Reyna gets to camp and reveals the Athena Parthenos, which makes peace
between the camps.
Zeus magically
transports the other demigods from the quest to help with the battle against Gaea.
The Romans and Greeks work together to try and defeat Gaia, but the only thing
that destroys her is a cannonball shot by Octavian. Sadly, Leo was holding Gaea
up while the cannonball exploded and he exploded with it, and not so sadly Octavian’s
robe got caught on the onager mechanisms while he shot the canon and he exploded
with it.
Once the
threat is gone Percy and Annabeth move away together to go to college once they are done high school, Nico, Frank,
and hazel decide to stay at their respected camp, and Jason and piper go to the McClean
mansion in California. Lastly we readers find out that Leo uses the physician's
cure to come back to life.
The blood of Olympus has a total of 516 pages and 58 chapters. I had several favorite parts of this book and one least favorite. My least favorite is when Leo dies, it's just sad that the characters from the book don't know that he used the physician's cure. most of my favorite parts aren't in the summary because they aren't important to the story but here they are. the first one is when they go see apollo and Leo trades him an item he claims to be a new instrument for the curse of Delphi. the second one is when Nico reveals to Percy that he is gay and used to have a crush on him and Percy is just confused. the last one is Nico and Reyna's friendship, during their journey to camp half-blood they really bonded.
